Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his initial title for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a difficult period, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in particular - led to him exiting of the top ten and ultimately separating with former trainer his previous coach.

Now training with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the past month - culminating in a closely contested three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial title after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt since March of 2023.

Victory also means the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at 21 different competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to win a trophy is particularly special," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, including in the German tournament in the past months.

His retrieving approach and regular reactions on court had caused some to doubt if his skill to compete at the highest level was over.

But the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play aggressively, supported by an better serving game.

The champion came back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, winning 4 of the final five games to take the lead.

The competitors swapped break points in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his initial ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to push for a decider.

The opponent saved 4 early chances in a competitive deciding set before the Russian broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he clinched the title with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
