The buzz around the recent awards show has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a strange statue. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction hints that the team is likely designing a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it sparked the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, player agency, and deep class systems—elements that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths you can achieve with a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also notoriously flexible, letting players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be completed in a variety of manners, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might progress the story because you remembered something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can look forward to another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
