Tragic Update on Cargo Plane Accident: Death Toll Climbs to 13

The tally of fatalities due to the transport jet that ignited and crashed has now risen to 13, as confirmed by recent statements.

Mayor's Remarks

“On my way to the Teamsters’ candlelight gathering, I learned of a thirteenth victim that died as a outcome of the UPS flight 2976 crash,” wrote the local official in a public communication. “My heart is with the relatives, associates and co-workers of all who were lost in this recently occurred disaster. We will overcome this collectively.”

Casualties Identified

A statement from the carrier named the officers aboard the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our sympathies go out to each UPSer who has been touched and everyone in our community area – helping you and guaranteeing you get the care and resources you need is our main concern,” the firm’s message stated.

Probe Updates

Federal officials disclosed that the UPS cargo plane’s port side wing burst into flames and an motor detached soon after departure from the airfield, causing the jet to plummet and erupt into a fireball.

The safety agency has said it is probing the aircraft’s maintenance history, which was in the state for maintenance several weeks ahead of the incident.

Aviation records showed the jet was on the ground in the Texas city from 3 September to mid-October.

“We are knowledgeable that this jet was there in that city,” stated an investigator on Thursday, without providing a exact date range. “We will review each aspect of maintenance that was completed, from the San Antonio time, straight to the date of the flight.”

Retrieval of Vital Evidence

The pilot’s recorder and data recorder were retrieved, and the power plant was found on the runway.

The devices – called data containers – were designed to survive collision damage and intense heat from infernos, and they seemed to be intact when found among the wreckage. Officials plan on examining recordings from the devices.

Jet’s final recorded information displayed an elevation of 475 feet and a speed of that speed prior to the crash.

Maintenance History

Based on FAA files dated 18 September, a fissure on a component inside the tank area required repairs.

Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which said it provides aircraft servicing for UPS’s aircraft and runs a repair facility in San Antonio, declined to speak, but stated it would cooperate fully when relevant authorities approached it.

Activities Continue

Meanwhile, the facility activities resumed that evening with its Next Day Air or nighttime procedure, representative the company official said. Each of the three runways at Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport were also open again.

The sorting center in Louisville is the firm’s biggest. The facility hires more than 20,000 people in the region, processes three hundred aircraft each day and organizes in excess of 400,000 parcels each hour.

Public Support

A memorial was organized on the evening of 6 November by the area worker’s group, which supports employees at the aviation hub, the company’s biggest freight center.

Teamsters Local 89, which stands for UPS workers, started the gathering with a moment of silence at the evening hour, the estimated hour of the incident before.

“This incident was so unexpected, so unforeseen,” the official addressed the crowd of 200. “No one had a moment to bid farewell to each of those who we have said farewell to.”
